Consumer Driven Healthcare plans:

Health Savings Accounts (s) (HSA's), and Health Reimbursement Account(s)(HRA's): These are healthcare plans where employees and enrolled family members are encouraged to participate in the process of purchasing healthcare. Typically the employer provides an allotment of money for the plan participant to pay for services. By example, a plan participant has a doctors visit and rather than the insurance company reimbursing the provider, the insurance company sends the check to the plan participant to cover the cost of the office visit himself. This engagement is intended to have the plan participant active in the process - thereby making wise decisions on whether care is actually necessary. This engagement is also intended to minimize over utilization and abuse of the system.
